INDI WELSH STUD EST.1973
Indi Stud was first established in 1973 and has been actively involved with Welsh Ponies and cobs ever since. The stud began with purchase of a Sec a colt Alkonie Flashlight Flashlight (Nattai Moonsprite x Nattai Peony). The next purchase was a Section A mare also from Len Peck Meadowmere Starflight: she produced many show winners. This was closed followed by the arrival of Owendale Blue Dawn who had a filly foal at foot. Berry Park Fashion, and was infoal to Gredington Gamelyn (imp) she produced a cream colt Indi Grennlyn. Grennlyn had a very successful show career in hand and also competed under saddle. Mark rode Indi Grennlyn in the very first Welsh One Day Event which was held at Suellen and Anthony Dean’s property at Tonimbuk. In 1977 we began breeding Section B’s and in doing so we Imported two ponies Cennen Secretariat (imp) (Downland Yeoman x Weston Sugar Plum) from Emry’s and Mary Bowen and a filly Crossways Lyric (Dunlewy Manzano x Crossways Lady Bird) from Richard Swain. Slowly the Section B numbers increased with the purchase of Downland Tranquility (imp) (Downland Mohawk x Downland Rapture) and Marwood Sunshine (imp) (Weston Gigli x Coryton Sunshine) and a Section A number decreased as my children Mark and Kylie commenced ridding the Section B’s at Pony Club and Shows. Cennen Secretariat (imp) had a very successful show career. Notable victories were that he was twice winner of the Champion Junior and senior and Best Youngstock at the Victorian All Welsh (in 1979 and 1980). His progeny include Indi Naomi. Tooravale Golden Ash and Wingana Mill Reef. He also won the National Sires Rates in 1984 and Runner up in 1985. Our first filly by Cennen Secretariat (imp) was Indi Naomi now deceased she had her first foal at the age of 16 and now her progeny have commenced their show careers. Indi Naomi was shown in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales gaining many championships in hand and ridden. She had represented Victoria in the Prince Phillip Games and has been used as a training pony for the National team. Mark and Kylie have successfully shown Indi Naomi at Pony Club, eventing, and in the show ring both in open and Welsh classes as well as taking her trail riding up in the High Country (see 1988 Welsh Journal) . As the children grew up, both Mark and Kylie rode our ponies with great success. In the early 90’s I went back to university and reduced our Welsh commitment but still maintained a couple of Section B ponies. Due to lifestyle changes and a few changes of address we now are settled on a 430 acre property at Upper Lurg Via Benalla . The ponies have increased in number rapidly. We purchased a Section C mare Wingana Playgirl from Alison Chipperfield, Wingana Playgirl (Greys Sport (imp) x Wingana Gay Girl) and two cob mares, full sisters, from Michael Randall – Durrant Melba and Durrant Make Mine Mink (Llanarth Jack Flash x Llanarth Molly (imp). They have produce fillies to Alcheringa Warlock. Mark has been going over to the UK on an annual basis for the last few years and has decided to breed Cobs and has purchased Elkins Aria from Avonvalley Stud. She is by (Nebo Magic x Corscaron Moonlight) she was imported in foal to Avonvalley Tiger Harry and produce a colt Indi Llewellyn(iid) |
